toska

/ the ache / No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.

A reintroduction.

My name is Maryam.
I’m a hijab-wearing Muslim.
I’m 17, a senior at high school, and going to the University of Texas next year (International Relations and Global Studies/Pre-Med), insha’Allah (God-willing).
I’m an anglophile to an obsessive degree (I even spell things the non-American way).
I love reading
I love writing (I hope to be a part-time novelist, whatever that means).
I’m a Nerdfighter (YouTube it).
Doctor Who is life.
Moriarty is real.
I want everyone to be my penpal.
I love soccer football, and Spain is my favourite team.
Giraffes are my favourite.

Um, I don’t know what else.

I have an older “about me” section here.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! :)
