toska

/ the ache / No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.

I was watching this again the other day, and he said things that really struck home.  We are such agitated human beings.  It is easier to find faults in others and our society than it is to find peace within ourselves.  We are constantly judging, and it has come to a point where it is innate—we don’t even realize we’re doing it, but as soon as we look at someone, we have preconceived notions about them.  This is tearing the fabric of the Ummah apart.  We are constantly pulling away and bashing heads against each other.  Islam is supposed to be a religion of peaceful serenity, something that is simple and just and complete.  Instead, we are hurting each other and ourselves by criticising things we do not completely understand.  This video is definitely worth watching.
